EA Mobile Montreal has been shut down, according to a report on Joystick and as a result 60-70 permanent employees and over 100 contract workers were laid off.
A representative from EA told Joystick: ” EA is sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile. In some cases, this involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organization”.
Well EA seems to be preparing to focus on the upcoming next gen consoles and despite them mentioning mobile games on the statement, the closing down of Montreal’s mobile studio seems to pretty much show us they are focusing less of their resources on that market, which in and of itself isn’t something particularly bad for us “core” gamers.
Nevertheless it is never good to see so many people loose their jobs, especially nowadays…
