Ratchet and Clank movie coming to cinemas in 2015

Ratchet and Clank fans rejoice! Sony has just recently announced that the popular platforming game, which made its mark in the gaming world on the PlayStation 2, is going to be adapted into a movie. Developed by Insomniac Games, also known for their work on the Spyro series, the games follow the journey of Ratchet (a character designed with both human and animal elements) and the robot, Clank, as they embark on numerous adventures to save the universe from evil.

Details from the press release highlight some elements of the story. Both Ratchet and Clank stumble across a weapon capable of destroying entire planets, and decide to team up with a group known as “The Galactic Rangers” to defeat the vile alien, Chairman Drek — Chariman Drek being  the primary antagonist from the first game.

Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind – a foolhardy ‘lombax’ who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.

The movie is to be developed by Blockcade Entertainment and Rainmaker Entertainment, the latter who have developed numerous Barbie films and other computer animated movies and tv shows; however, both Sony Computer Entertainment and Insomniac Games will be overseeing the project to make sure the development goes smoothly.

Further details will be provided when available, but don’t forget to check out the trailer below!
