May 6 2013 is the day that EA and Disney made it official, their collaboration to allow EA’s team of gaming experts handle future Star Wars titles for years to come. EA’s has already started building their Star Wars game resume with the extremely popular Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. EA will focus on large budget traditional platform and console titles, as Disney is retaining the rights to social-media and mobile platforms. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau’s broke the news through an official EA blog post, and Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants had this to say about the deal,
“Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”
There is of course no word yet as to when a new game will be released, but sources suggest that during EA’s financial report during the end of the fiscal year and 2015 when Episode VII is scheduled to release in theaters are a good guessing point.
